We started today with a tour of the largest Cathedral in Spain. Then we had a 15 mile walk (which they say is only 12 but I have a new Fitbit that says otherwise) and I recorded tons of content and pictures. BUT, I speed tested the internet here at our Hostel and the download speeds are OK but it would take me about a month to upload even a single low resolution photo. I’m going to have a whopper of a post when we finally have time AND internet service.
For those of you wondering about my knees, they have been 100% fine. I am putting on an anti-inflammatory cream every morning AND wearing knee braces and I really couldn’t tell you if either one is actually doing anything; all I know is that I am pain free and we’ve walked over 35 miles in the last two days.
I will make one quick comment about the Cathedral tour but without pictures I’m going to save the details. I had to leave after about 20 minutes because I was having an anxiety attack. Some of you know the story of what happened to me when I touched the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, the same thing to a lesser extent happened when I touched the Stone of Unction (where Jesus was laid out for burial preparation), but the feeling I got inside the Cathedral in Burgos was one of sickening anxiety. I literally could not get out of there fast enough. Pics to follow; I promise.
It’s 5:00pm so I have 30 minutes to get something to eat at the bar across the street or I have to wait until the restaurant opens at 8:00pm. Since I haven’t had anything to eat since breakfast, I need to run through the shower and go get a sandwich.
I REALLY appreciate the comments. I am also receiving email so if you have something that perhaps shouldn’t be written for public viewing, feel free to send me a private email.
Buen Camino

trekking away! Feel any different yet? What are you thinking about as you’re walking? Just getting through each session, or is there more in your head these days?
When Spaniards look at that land, they can tell themselves they’ve lived there and the land is similar to what it was going back a thousand years or more. I wonder what that does to them and their attitudes. Here in California we can hardly look back and see more than a generation, often less. Think how Chula Vista has changed since you were a kid. Pretty amazing difference.

I AM SO VERY PROUD OF YOU!!!! It is your destiny to be on this journey. I think you will be able to stay with your thoughts while in the many churches you still will be entering.Even though the beds are short for you, you are probably soooo tired that they feel pretty good. We are starting to have some Fall mornings & Evenings, feels cozy. Looking forward to the Pics on the way!!! Love You

Hey Russ, he is using the poles and he’s really glad he has them. They’ve been really great with stability and also hill ascents and decants. He’s walking with them so he’s also getting a full-body workout. I told Joe that there’s a great book called Pillars of the Earth about those stone cathedrals in Europe that’s good reading. I feel awful sometimes because of the siesta, Joe can’t exactly eat at “normal” dinner time. A lot of times we’re using Skype and I’m stuffing my face with food… Lol Thanks for commenting and keeping him going. It’s a long journey and he’s doing great, but the encouragement and family support is awesome. Tim

So happy to hear that your knees are better! I apologize for not communicating more, but the October 15th is too close. I think I am having a panic attack too:) Love, E

I look forward to the Cathedral tour pics. You must be very spiritual Joe to have felt the anxiety you felt in the Cathedral. I too had an experience like that in a Church in Hawaii and also in a voodoo shop in New Orleans. Glad your knees are doing great and I look forward to reading more blogs from you.

Hey bro,
I heard something about poles, did you decide to try them? I really thought mine was useful on the Milford trek, much shorter, but off road and slippery.. glad your knees are back under you. twins turned 9 months the other day.. R
