Watch these videos from Left to Right (Top to Bottom) so Top Left, Top Right, Middle Left, Middle Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Right). This is pretty much the story of Day 5….and I’m sorry about not writing more but time is limited and you can say a thousand words with a picture.

Just got a chance to see the brick structure with the well in it. That’s fascinating. Those I think are romanesque arches (usually before gothic times) so probably very very old. And probably protected well and wash area? Reminds me of all those Roman fountains in Rome that have been running without stopping for more than 2000 years. The Romans knew water and knew how essential it is, how to provide it consistently. Would love to know the story of that one.

Does seem lonely. Are the others walking together? Are you seeing other pilgrims on the road, other than your group?
What do you think? Bogus walk? Worth it because of the views? Worth it because of the time to think?
How many miles a day are you guys walking?
Keep up the good work!

Joe Luna:
It is definitely worth the walk. I figured I would probably be the only Gay guy and even if I wasn’t everybody walks at their own pace. Actually, I have a funny story about being Gay. The other morning at breakfast the 76 year old woman asked me if I was married. I replied that I was Gay. She said “I know you are Gay but are you married?”. An almost unimaginable scenario just a few years ago but now, being Gay, no longer means you can’t get married. I explained that Tim and I had discussed it and didn’t want to get married and one of the straight guys (Chris) laughingly yelled out “That’s Bullshit, I had to do it”. Everybody in the room laughed.
Except for my knee situation, the trip would be great. I’m just really concerned now that I have had two days where the simple act of walking caused excruciating pain. Yesterday I was walking into a small village and the Group Leader and a few other people were sitting at a sidewalk cafe having a snack and waiting for people to go by. When Lu (The Tour Leader) looked up and saw me limping in she popped up and came over to me to ask if I was OK. I just nodded no and she knows me well enough already to know what that means. We went into a nearby pharmacy and purchased knee braces and ice packs. Here’s the odd part. ALL I have to do is ice my knees for about 5 minutes each, and the pain completely goes away. It’s a wide enough swing to seem very odd. I was practically dragging my right leg yesterday using my walking poles (Thank God I bought those) but yesterday evening after getting ice from the Bar Tender, I was up and bopping around like nothing had happened. I wish I knew more about the anatomy of the knee so I could better understand why this was happening. Of course, of all the drugs I leave at home, I left the Methylprednesolone and Cortisone at home. The injection I got the other day was Methylpredisolone. Hopefully this is just a muscle/tendon development issue and that a over the next few days it will improve. I’m not walking today to give them another chance to recover.

I like that old castle on the hill. Yes, it seems to be full of spirits in the wind.

Uncle Joe, well that just sucks about your knee !! I hope and pray that you will start feeling better, glad its not a race :)… The sights sure are a thing to see, lets hope they take your mind off the bumps and bruises and you and keep moving forward.
So how is the food? I hope there are some tasty treats for you and the end of each day!!
Love you and stay strong….

Amazing footage!! I almost wish I was traveling these roads with you, but with my torn up knee I can only manage the Avon Breast walk at 39.6 miles in a weekend. Take care of those knees…………..ice, rest and Advil!!!

Hi Joe! Thank you so much for posting these terrific vids! Having no prior knowledge whatsoever about this area of the planet, I really appreciate your updates! I wonder how many castles you will encounter on your journey? It’s interesting that you mentioned you don’t know why you decided to do this walk, but I suspect you won’t know until it’s finished! Keep up the fantastic work, and I really hope your knees are cooperating! Cher xo

That may have been a bath fountain, but I saw on the internet there’s a free wine fountain somewhere? You’ll have to ask Lu about that one. 😛 Enjoyed the videos hope your knees are holding up.

Beautiful and lonely too… Tell me what you’re eating. I don’t know why I’m so interested, but I am. What is the weather like?
