We just arrived at our hotel 11km outside of Santiago.  Breakfast starts at 7am tomorrow which means we could be at the Pilgrim’s Stone in the middle of the Santiago Cathedral Square by 10:00am or 10:30am.  Boy do I have a surprise for you…..but it wouldn’t be a surprise if i gave you any hints.

But I do know this.  I am only 20,000 steps away from making 1,000,000 for this trip.  I am fairly certain I am going to do that and if I don’t I’m going to walk around the Cathedral a couple of times until I do.  It’s odd because we’ve already walked over 500 miles and the 10,000 step reminder has generally gone off at 4.3 miles so I’m going to have a conversation with FitBit when I get home.  For now the sense of relief that we are here is indescribable.

Unless I trip over my shoelaces or get hit by a meteorite, by this time tomorrow I will have been in Santiago for several hours and my 2nd Camino trip in less than 6 months will be completed.  Over 1,000 miles and, hopefully, over 2,000,000 steps.  I’m having a hard time even wrapping my head around that number.

I’m also having a hard time typing because we just walked close to 20 miles today with a lot of hills and rain. I need to decompress, take a shower and surprisingly, walk around a little bit to just slow the engine down.  Marji walked with me today because her friend, Eileen, was sick and we pounded out the miles.  It felt good but also we just wanted this saga to be done.  We really are within a stones throw now.
