April Fools Day in Spain and wouldn’t you know it’s not a “thing” here.  I did think about a great prank to pull on my of my fellow hikers but decided not to do it.  I did laugh out loud while I was dreaming it up so I guess I got my kicks without actually pulling her chain.

We are at the official 1/2 way mark.  One of the Churches in the town we are spending two nights in is issuing La Mitad (The Middle) Certificates so we stopped and picked them up today.  I’m going to have quite a collection of Camino documents to frame when I get home from this trip; I never got around to framing the one from the last trip in October.

Absolutely stunning day today.  Cool but shocking blue skies and a light breeze.  I walked the first 10km which took us back to the town where we are spending the night.  The official hike today goes another 10km but I had bills to pay and, frankly, I want to rest up before the second half of the trip.  The more enthusiastic hikers don’t know that we have two mountain ranges ahead of us and we hit the first one next week.  We have gotten peeks of the peaks and they are still covered in snow.  As long as the days stay sunny we will be OK but if the rain and snow returns the second half of this trip will be a challenge.  That’s why I’m recharging my batteries.

We walk part of the way to Leon tomorrow and then spend the night at a beautiful old Monastery there.  We will continue to get bussed back to the same hotel in Leon for 3 nights so I’m going to take the entire day off Friday and Saturday.  The Semana Santa celebrations will be non-stop, Leon is a nice city with shopping, and my legs need a breather.  I’m hoping my creative juices (and the internet) will be flowing so I can post some pictures and maybe get more creative with my writing.

Below I’ve posted a map of our approximate route to date and todays FitBit stats.
